Painting Nora's Nails
Amongst many things quality time with my princess is extremely important to me. I've never been the tea party / nail painting kind of dad but I figured now would be a good time to start. Nora (almost 2) is growing in her comfort zone with me. She's not afraid to tell me whats on her mind and certainly not afraid to ask me to paint her nails.
While visiting a close family to us for their son and daughter's birthday party we were all preparing for the party and spending family time together. Shortly after brunch Nora proceeds to summon me (Bob) to paint her nails. As I began to paint them I realize (I am very terrible at this). Of course she's sitting their giggling and happy because Daddy is painting her nails.
Because I am a hyper-focus, data minded person I'm trying to paint these tiny little toes as best as I possibly can. It almost seemed as if Nora was determined to get nail polish on her whole foot because each time I will get a perfect swipe of the nail brush she would karate chop me in the throat with her tiny toes and laugh hysterically.
After about 5-10 minutes of playing this game of "I will get paint everywhere, No you will not" I realized that it was less about the perfect nails and more about the giggles and laughter.
The life lesson I learned during this fun 15 minute session was that I had the opportunity to come out of my comfort zone and do something 100% to her liking. Needless to say she jumped down and proceeded to walk around the house with that penguin walk that all ladies do when they are waiting for the paint to dry on their fresh pair of barnacles (yes I said it).
Nora, you are my darling. I will eventually get better at painting those tiny toes but thank you for laughing and making it a fun time for Daddy.
